NERC orders probe into Abuja electrocution

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) at the weekend began investigations into an electrical accident that killed three persons and injured five others in Tudun Wada area of Lugbe, a satellite town in Abuja.

The incident happened when a transformer conductor that feeds light to parts of the community snapped leading to a surge in electricity that lead to the death

Acting Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Anthony Akah, at the weekend led a team of investigators from his Commission and officials of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to visit and conduct on the spot assessment of the situation.

Residents blamed the AEDC for not tidying up the network in the area despite generating income from the people.

According to NERC Chief, Akah: “AEDC said they have gotten the survivors’ names and have taken over their medical attention from today. Their officials will follow them to the hospitals of their choice.

“Our investigation team will come back to conduct an assessment into what happened and develop strategies to prevent the re occurrence,” he said.

Akah praised the community for maintaining peace despite the incidence. He urged the victims to contact the Commission if the Disco fails to convey them to the hospital as directed.

Director of Regulatory Affairs at AEDC, Abimbola Odubiyi, said AEDC had also launched an investigation into the issue.

He detailed how officials had collated the data of the victims and AEDC to take over their medical care before NERC intervened.
