Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has dissociated itself from fake Instagram accounts set up in its name.

“We are aware of Instagram accounts claiming to be “official account of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control,” NCDC said on Twitter on Tuesday.

“These are NOT affiliated with NCDC.”

NCDC further stated that it is working with Instagram to open a verified account on the platform.

The centre said it’s only active on two social media platform; Twitter and Facebook with the handle @NCDCgov.

NCDC has been pushing out information, in recent days, through its social media pages. The proliferation of pages pretending to be those of the centre may jeopardise its work.

The Guardian counted eight of such pages on Instagram on Tuesday morning.
