NBA 2017 Annual General Conference begins Friday

The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) would on Friday begin its 57th Annual General Conference (AGC). The theme of the conference, which would be held at Landmark Event Centre, Lagos is “African Business: Penetrating through Institution Building.”

A statement by the NBA-AGC Media and Communications unit said participants would be drawn from government, business, professional service providers and the academia from across the world.

About 31 conference sessions, which would be covered at the conference include, “Energising institutions,” “Women leadership,” “Legislation,“Institutionalising African Investments,” “military business,” “The business of dispute resolution” and “Life after law.”

The statement reads: “Discussions on institution building and acceleration of economic development and social justice in Africa, will dominate the conference, which will be declared open by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

“Leading talks at the conference are the former Prime Minister of the state of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs Africa, Colin Coleman, Global CEO Consultant, Ram Charan, Nigeria’s and Africa’s businessman, Aliko Dangote.”

Other distinguished speakers and panelists include Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta and Finance Minister of Ghana, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Also to speak are the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice of the Republic of Ghana, Gloria Afua- Akuffo and AMCON CEO, Ahmed Lawan Kuru.

Representatives of the global legal community, including the International Bar Association (IBA), International Trademark Association (INTA), The Law Society of England and Wales, the International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) will also be at the conference.

Also expected are the Head of Branding Consultancy in South Africa, Attorney General of Ghana, Heads of Ghanaian, Zambian and Kenyan Bars, representatives of leading law firms in Ivory Coast and Cameroon, Professors from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, and former Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega.

The session “Nigeria’s Hidden Weapons: Generation X” will turn the spotlight on the leaders of tomorrow and the significant role they play in institution building and development.

In addition, young professionals (100 of whom have been sponsored to the conference by the NBA President) will be educated on the various means to unlock their untapped potential to be assets to organisations and businesses worldwide.

The Chairman of the NBA’s Technical Committee on Conference Planning (TCCP) Prof. Konyinsola Ajayi assured participants of a world-class conference.

Also to feature are digital innovations like online registration and digital access cards to the venue, but would not involve the traditional distribution of conference bags and materials.
