Naija Yao To Empower 36,000 Youths
A non-government organization, Youth Development and Actualisation Outreach, alias ‘Naija Yao’ is set to empower 36,000 Nigerian youths in the 36 states through its project tagged: “Block Making and Construction”, as a tool for youth empowerment.
According to its President and facilitator, Mr Ifeanyi Williams Okeke, the skill acquisition project is geared towards intensive training of youths on the manufacturing of building blocks and paving stones, among others, through the use of special designed foreign block-making machine known as ‘Egg Laying Machine’.
He told The Guardian that Naija YAO, fully incorporated in 2014, was born out of his passion to see a truly transformed Nigeria “ which can only be made possible through the instrumentality of the youth who are the only future of our nation as investment in them is a rewarding investment.”
He said the project, which is a tool for youth empowerment and mass housing, would provide sustainable solution to the creation of jobs for the youths, skills acquisition and mass housing, with Secretariats in each of the six zones of the country.
He added that these will also act as a Vocational Learning Center (VLC), where workers will be taught basic construction skills like brick-making, plumbing, roofing, tilling etc. by Site Engineers, Foremen, Project Managers and Skilled Artisans.
According to Okeke, the Project Sensitization Seminar tagged “ Block Making and Construction: A Tool for Youth Empowerment and Mass Housing, which is aimed at training youths across the six zones, will commence early next year, beginning with Abia State.
“The training will alleviate the national poverty burden by empowering youth, avail the populace with the opportunity of cheap,
quality brick/ blocks, reduce the incidence of crime by meaningfully engaging the youth, and promoting mass housing.
On the roles of the benefiting states, he said “we are not soliciting financial support from them, but we expect them to direct their line ministries to ensure that the right youths are engaged for the four months training, including government standing as sureties for the Naija Yao training graduates.
