NAF kill Boko Haram terrorists, destroy hideout

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Monday said it has destroyed the meeting venue of Boko Haram terrorists at Boboshe area around the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

NAF spokesman Ibikunle Daramola in a statement said “several BHTs (Boko Haram Terrorists) were also killed as a result of the strikes.”

Daramola said the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole conducted the attack on Sunday, following successive days of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, coupled with human intelligence reports.

He explained that the reports identified a building around the forest area being used as a meeting point by the insurgents.

The NAF spokesman disclosed that Boko Haram commanders assemble in the building periodically to take instructions before launching attacks on military troops and innocent civilians.

After assembling the reports and strategies, he said, “the ATF detailed its fighter aircraft to attack the hideout, scoring accurate hits within the designated area leading to the decimation of the target structure.

The reported destruction of Boko Haram meeting point and killing of some of the insurgents comes a day after the Nigeria Army said the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole captured 10 senior commanders of the Boko Haram insurgency group.

Army spokesman Aminu Iliyasu in a statement said the arrest of the insurgents was part of the Nigeria Army’s heightened level of the fight against terrorism.

“For instance, during a successful sting operation conducted on 9 October 2019 by troops of the 26Task Force Brigade, 10 suspected key Boko Haram members were reportedly captured,” Iliyasu said.

Iliyasu disclosed that the insurgents were attempting to sneak into some communities around Bitta in Gwoza LGA of Borno State to escape before the troops captured them.
