For weeks now, motorists plying the Oshodi-Apapa expressway enroute Iyana-Isolo have been subjected to avoidable trauma occasioned by gridlock caused by a bad portion under the bridge shortly after Charity bus-stop and another at Toyota bus-stop.

Yesterday, Sunday was not spared the gridlock as the traffic stretched beyond Charity bus-stop. The traffic at Toyota bus-stop is not only worsened by the bad portion, but the frequent crisscrossing of the highway by traders and visitors to the Ladipo auto spare parts market, due to the absence of a pedestrian bridge.

A civil servant, whose place of work is not far from the spots, Layi Taiyelolu, described the situation as unfortunate. “One would expect that a busy highway of this magnitude would be free of any hitch to free ride. But little problems are not fixed until it becomes a major nightmare.

“The pothole under the bridge started as a small dent but it has widened to become a crater. One thing I know is that if there was a quick response, it would not have led to a big problem of causing severe traffic experienced daily.”

An official at the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Lagos State, said the state government has not abandoned the road, as it is part of the ongoing rehabilitation/expansion of the Oshodi-airport road project, adding that the work is done in phases and would soon be completed.
