Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, a first class traditional ruler in Nasarawa state, on Monday tasked policy makers to develop modern framework to boost girl child education in rural areas.

Abdullahi, who is the Ohimegye Opanda, gave the task in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in his palace in Umaisha development area of state.

He said that such policy would disabuse the mind set of some Nigerians on their negative socio-cultural belief associated with girl child education in the country.

“I want to use this medium to call on the policy makers to develop more modern framework towards boosting girl child education especially at the grassroots setting because the development of any society is also depended upon the quality of education that is given to a girl child.

“I also want to call on parents and guardians to strive to ensure good education for their children especially their female wards as no society achieved meaningful progress without sound education,’’ he said.

“Education is the best legacy parents and government should leave for its children and citizens, hence the need for the parents to send their children to school in order to acquire both western and religion,’’ said the traditional ruler.

Usman commended his people for living in peace and called for its sustenance.

He called on Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliation for the overall development of the country.

“As a traditional ruler, my role is to preach peace, unity and to advise my subjects and other Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

“Because no nation or society can develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion, the security challenges facing some parts of the country had affected our lives and socio-economic development of the country negatively.’’

Besides, the royal father called on his subjects to support the present administration at all levels to enable the government deliver on its mandate.
