Minimum wage: Labour begins strike in Kebbi March 3
Following the failure of the Kebbi State Government to implement the N30,000 minimum wage, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kebbi chapter, has fixed Tuesday, March 3, 2020 to shut down the state.
Addressing journalists at the end of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the Labour House, Birnin Kebbi, yesterday, the chairman, Alhaji Umar Alhassan, who expressed dismay over the state government’s inability to implement the new wage, urged the workers to prepare for strike on March 3.
The union had reportedly given Governor Abubakar Bagudu till March 2 to implement the new wage, which was signed into law by President Muhammadu on April 18, 2019, have the workers to contend with.
“We are here together to discuss the ultimatum we gave the state government on our demands and it will end by Monday, March 2 at midnight. That is why we summoned an extra large meeting to inform our members about the situation.
“There has not been positive response from government in respect to our demands. So, we have directed members to go on and mobilise ahead of our industrial action which is coming up on Tuesday,” he said.
Also speaking, the state chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Alhaji Hussaini Yelwa, said all unions under the congress had been mobilised for the strike.
