Mimiko, Fayose, Kashamu reconcile Ogun, Oyo, Osun PDP 

Slight Disagreement After Meetings

Governor Segun Mimiko and his counterpart in Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, along with Senator Buruji Kashamu, who represents Ogun East, have said the differences among the warring factions of the Osun, Oyo and Lagos chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been resolved, as all sides have agreed to present a common list of delegates ahead of the party’s proposed National Convention.

However, reactions and counter reactions that trailed the exercise, suggested that the meeting might not yield expected results.

The reconciliation meeting was held at the Presidential lodge of the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos on Friday, where the two governors and Senator Kashamu held separate closed door meetings with well represented members from the three states.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Fayose disclosed that considerable progress was achieved to reconcile the warring factions, as “this was part of the continued exercise and efforts by the PDP leadership to put together our party, particularly in the South West zone and in each of the states.”

He said the reconciliation exercise was limited to Osun, Oyo and Lagos because those are the three major states in the South West, where there are issues to resolve.

“Because there are seating governors in Ondo and Ekiti States and the fact that Senator Kashamu is on the top of affairs in Ogun, those states are at peace and the members would harmonise on how to present a list of delegates that would go to the planned national convention,” he said.

The governor disclosed that all factions in the states in question have agreed to close ranks, work as a team to present one list of delegates.

A faction of the Osun chapter, which stormed out of the meeting, decried what happened, insisting that if the other faction believes in its popularity, it should not continue to hide under Mimiko and Fayose.

Shouting angrily, one of them said, “It is not possible for Mimiko and Fayose to sit in their states and be dictating what happens in Osun.”

But in a more refined manner, the National Secretary of the PDP, Prof. Wale Oladipo and former Speaker of Osun State, Adejare Bello said the issues had been resolved and the states would work as a team.
