Military warns Borno residents against flaunting curfew

nigerian-army-trainingThe Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 7 Division of Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Victor Ezegwu has said that violation of curfew hours by some residents of Maiduguri over Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state threatens relative peace in the metropolis.

Ezegwu also warned that anyone found flaunting the curfew hours of 9pm-6am would be arrested and prosecuted.

The warnings was contained in a statement issued in Maiduguri yesterday by the Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Col. Mustapha Anka,

It reads in part: “It has come to the notice of Headquarters 7 Division Nigerian Army Operation LAFIYA DOLE that some members of the public violate orders on curfew imposed in Maiduguri and environs.

“Despite the successes recorded against Boko Haram insurgents across the state, the fight against insurgency is not yet over,” Anka noted.

On review of curfew hours, Anka said: “The Borno State Government and Headquarters Theatre Command will at the appropriate time review the curfew in line with prevailing security situation across the state.

“We wish to reiterate that anyone found flaunting the orders will be arrested and prosecuted. All law abiding citizens and peace loving people of Borno State are hereby advised to report any suspicious person (s) to nearest military post, security agencies or Civilian Joint Task Force.”
