Troops of 155 Task Force Battalion 29 Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Monday killed 25 terrorists, arresting two other suspects during a five-hour operation in three Borno communities.

Camps belonging to Boko Haram terrorists in the villages were also destroyed, with 18 hostages rescued.

This was disclosed yesterday in a statement issued to newsmen in Maiduguri by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman.

He said the villages cleared by the military in the operation include Mballeri, Shuari 1 and 2, with all the terrorists camps destroyed, before people held hostage were rescued.

The statement said: “In addition to the destruction of terrorists’ camps in the villages, the troops also rescued 18 persons held captive. The rescued hostages comprise two men, seven women and nine children between the ages of two and 11.

“The rescued persons have been moved to the brigade’s headquarters for further screening and care. Unfortunately, a civilian JTF accompanying the troops fell off a vehicle and sustained some injuries. He has since been taken to the unit’s Regimental Aid Post for medical treatment and is in a stable condition.”

Speaking on the arrests of terrorists, Usman said: “During the operation the troops came in contact with elements of the terrorists group and arrested two suspected Boko Haram insurgents. The troops also recovered abandoned vehicles, motorcycles, and a bicycle as well as locally made single and double barrel guns belonging to the group.”

He added that the intent of the military operation was to ensure that all the remaining elements of the terrorists on Nigerian soil are eliminated.

He urged members of the public to provide information on suspicious individuals to security agencies.
