Military alerts public on Boko Haram’s new tactics
The Nigerian Army, yesterday, alerted the nation on Boko Haram’s new tactics of attacking and bombings in the North East region of the country. This is to protect lives and property in the affected states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.
The warning was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Director, Defense Information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, and made available to newsmen in Maiduguri.
He said despite the decimation of the terrorists, Boko Haram has adopted a new operational strategy of female suicide bombers disguised in men’s clothes to attack soft targets.
The statement reads: “In continuation with the sensitisation of our citizens on the devilish strategy of the terrorists, the Nigerian Military has discovered that Boko Haram terrorists are determined to continue letting off bombs and has resorted to hiding their true sex identity.
“Female members now dress in men attire to have access to mosques to detonate their bombs. The latest suicide attack in the mosque at Molai Umurari Village in Borno State is instructive in this regard.”
Abubakar in the statement advised Nigerians to be wary of suspicious persons, irrespective of sex at places of worship, markets and public entertainment centres.
“Having been effectively dislodged and decimated, the splinter cells of the remnant Boko Haram terror group still engage in some systematic isolated attacks, mainly on soft targets in their desperation to remain relevant.”
The military also advises the general public to report suspicious persons and objects to the nearest security agency.
