Federal and state governments have been urged to ensure that the new wage benchmarked at N30,000 is paid without hitches, as workers deserve reasonable remuneration for their labour.

The call was made in a communiqué issued at the end of the third annual synod of the Methodist Church, Metropolitan Diocese of Ikeja, Lagos.

Signed by Bishop Stephen Adegbite; synod secretary, Rev. Timothy Olatunji; and lay president, Frederick Ogunjuboun, the communiqué called on all tiers of government to ensure prompt payment of pensions, allowances and other outstanding entitlements without delay.

The synod frowned at the escalating killings of innocent citizens, especially in Kaduna, Zamfara, Taraba, Borno, Plateau, Yobe and Adamawa states.

It called on the federal government to rise to the occasion and arrest the development decisively.

While expressing full support of the church to the anti-corruption crusade of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, the synod disagreed with the lopsided nature of the fight.

Noting that politicians who were perceived as “vilest offenders” became “saints” the moment they joined the ruling party, it urged government to make the anti-corruption fight holistic and genuine.

The body also urged the president to ensure that appointments into the security architecture and other strategic offices reflect the spirit of the Federal Character.
