Media stakeholders set up committees on 2018 IPI World Congress

Preparations for the hosting of the 2018 World Congress and General Assembly of the International Press Institute (IPI) in Nigeria have commenced with the setting up of nine planning committees.

The committees, which were set up at an extraordinary meeting of the Nigerian media stakeholders in Lagos are: The Local Organising Committee (LOC) and those of Finance; Sponsorship; Programme and Events; Media and Publicity; Transport and Logistics; Contact and Protocol; Venue and Accommodation, as well as and Security.

President, Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Nduka Obaigbena heads the LOC, with Kabiru Yusuf and Garba Shehu are deputy chairmen, while Secretary of IPI Nigeria, Raheem Adedoyin, will serve as Secretary.

Speaking at the stakeholders meeting, Obaigbena, said: “The Nigerian media was ready to host the world. We have the whole world to host in six months and we are prepared to host the world in six months to showcase the best of Nigeria and the best of Africa.”

Obaigbena assured that the host committee would promote an agenda on issues that matter to Nigeria and Africa.The committees will meet this month to fashion out a work plan and submit their reports to the LOC in January.

Other members of the LOC are Ismaila Isa, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wada Maida, Lady Maiden Ibru, Kalu Orji Kalu, Sam Nda-Isaiah, John Momoh, Yakubu Muhamned, Bayo Onanuga, Tonnie Iredia and Folu Olamiti.

Also in the LOC are Funke Egbemode, Waheed Odusile, Victor Ifijeh, Emma Agu, Idris Mohammed and Eric Osagie.A statement by Head of 2018 IPI World Congress Secretariat, Adedoyin, said the committees and their heads are Finance: Ismaila Isa (Chairman), Kabiru Yusuf (Deputy Chair) and Odusile (Member/Secretary)

The Sponsorship Committee has Tinubu as Chairman, Obaigbena (Deputy Chair) and Victoria Ibanga (Member/Secretary), while the Programme and Events Committee has Yusuf as Chairman, Eniola Bello (Deputy Chair) and Tracia Ubani (Member/Secretary).

The Transportation and Logistics Committee has Olamiti as Chairman, Nnamdi Njemanze (Deputy Chair), and Qasim Akinreti (Member/Secretary), while the Media and Publicity Committee has Iredia as Chairman, Osagie (Deputy Chair) and Yemi Ajayi (Member/Secretary).

The Contract and Protocol Committee has Shehu as Chairman, Comfort Obi (Deputy Chair) and H.H. Sanni (Member/Secretary), while Venue and Accommodation has Maida as Chairman, Egbemode (Deputy Chair) and Catherine Agbo (Member/Secretary).The Security Committee has Mohammed as Chairman, Madu Onuorah (Deputy Chairman) and Rafat Salami (Member/Secretary).
