Mechanic arrested for stealing police officer’s car

The suspect, a father of four, who was nabbed by a team of policemen from Maitumbi Division in Minna, Niger State, explained that he wanted to sell it at a giveaway price to enable him pay the second term fees of his children in primary and secondary schools.

The Guardian gathered that the owner of the car, Surajo Garba, a police officer, was in deep sleep when the suspect made away with his car. When he woke up, he alerted police operatives who swung into action to ensure the thief was arrested.

It was gathered that Simeon has allegedly been in the act of stealing for more than two years until he was caught. The suspect, The Guardian learnt has master key he uses to open any car he wants to steal without fear of being apprehended.

“I don’t know what I am going to tell my wife and children. I am ruined and my marriage is in trouble. I hope they will find a place in their hearts to forgive me, It is the worst thing that has ever happened to me,” he lamented.

Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was arrested behind Maitumbi primary school, Minna. The police spokesman said the matter would be charged to court after due investigations.

Meanwhile, detectives attached to the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three members of an armed robbery syndicate who have been terrorizing Ogijo and its environs. Their arrests were confirmed by the spokesman of the Ogun State Police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

The suspects were arrested around 9:00p.m. on Saturday during one of their robbery operations in the state.

“Policemen attached to Ogijo Divisional Headquarters in the state received a distress call from No. 6, Baale Street, Molatori Ogijo that robbers have invaded their residence and they are being dispossessed of their belongings. Having received the distress call, the DPO Ogijo Division, Tijani Mohammed, led his anti-robbery operatives to the scene where they engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel.

“At the end of the encounter, three members of the syndicate namely Yusuf Odugbemi, Tunde Asamu, and Sunday Azeez were arrested while others escaped. Recovered from them are one live cartridge, two cutlasses and assorted charms.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to FSARS for discreet investigation with a view to arresting the fleeing members of the syndicate,” Oyeyemi said.
