Martins, Ademowo urge Christians to collect PVC, shun graft

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins has urged Christians to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs).He made this call yesterday at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos during the 2018 Chrism mass celebration to mark the institution of priesthood and the blessing of oils.

Martins said the PVC was important for the Christians to exercise their civil duties to the nation, adding that it is only through it that their voice could be heard.
He said: “Elections are our opportunities to decide who should stay in power and those who are elected. Therefore, it is important that people make due arrangements by going to collect their voters’ cards. 

“We generally have our comments about those who lead us, but our comments would be better utilised, if we get the voters cards. It is also important that we look carefully at those whom we want to vote into power.“We must look at their antecedents, the promises that they had made and do a background check on them to know how much the people are serious about serving.

Meanwhile, the Bishop of Lagos, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Most Rev. Dr. Ephraim Ademowo, has charged the Federal Government to shun corruption and tackle infrastructure.

In his Good Friday message to Nigerians, the bishop lamented that despite the huge investment on roads in the past decades, the impact is not felt.He added that the situation seems to be getting worse, with huge loss of life and property being recorded every year.Ademowo said lamented the electricity supply in the country, which is vital to investment climate.

“Government needs to explore all avenues to radically improve the supply and stability of infrastructure,” he said.He also called on the Government to increase its support for agriculture as a mechanism for jobs creation, especially for the teeming population of Nigerian youths. The bishop, who doubles as the Dean Emeritus of the Church of Nigeria, urged Christians to stop all forms of abuses as corruption, kidnapping, rape, violence and other societal decay.
