BARELY twenty-four hours after the take-off of Shi’ites followers from Kano point to Zaria, suicide bombers rammed into them causing the death of a yet to be ascertained number and leaving many with various degrees of injuries.

The procession is an annual event of the Islamic Movement, popularly known as Shi’ite sect, where hundreds of thousands of them trek from four identified points, with Kano being the largest point, to Zaria, the hometown of their spiritual leader Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, for an annual lecture in the memory of the grandson of the Prophet of Islam, Hussain Bin Ali.

The Kano command Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Musa Katsina confirmed the blast, revealing that his men were ahead of the procession, diffusing another planted bomb targeted at the trekkers.

It happened in Dakasoye village less than 60km from Kano metropolis – the village between Kura and Garun Malam local governments.

Though no official number of casualties was given, but an eyewitness account suggests that 10 to 15 dead bodies were recovered from the scene and many sustained various degrees of injuries.

The source added that at about 1pm yesterday, one suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber was identified and caught by Hurras, private security guards of the sect.

“The suspect confessed that they were two and the other one was also ready to launch an attack,” the source disclosed.

Meanwhile, with the number of casualties yet to be officially given by the Police, the Kano Ameer of the Sect, Malam Muhammad Turi has disclosed that 21 people died in the attack.
