Man in police custody for conspiracy and cheating
A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday remanded a 23-year-old, Richard Anekwe, in prison custody till April 13 for alleged joint act and cheating.
The presiding officer, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, remanded Anekwe to enable the police conclude its investigation.
Anekwe, who resides at Enugu State, was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and cheating.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Salisu Khaleed, told the court that the complainant, Duru Stellamaris of 2nd Avenue, Lugbe, reported the case at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on Oct. 23, 2015.
He said that the defendant and Christopher Anekwe, now at large on Oct.19, 2015 conspired and dishonestly deceived the complainant to pay N450,000 for a business proposal.
Khaleed said after receiving the money they both disappeared to an unknown destination.
He told the court that police detectives later arrested him and recovered N100,000 from him.
He said the offence contravened Sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code. Anekwe, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
