The mother was said to have died in Morocco some years ago on her way to Europe.

The incident was said to have occurred at 13, Igubor Street, off Technical College Road in Benin City.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Osifo Abiding confirmed the incident.

The suspect, said to be a Togolese, attacked her grandmother identified as Mrs Janet Ogbeifun, aged 55.

Solomon, who is said to have a sister in Togo, was reportedly brought to Benin City by his paternal uncle in September last year.

An eyewitness, 12-year-old Hassan Stephen, while explaining what transpired, said he was in the house with his grandmother preparing for school at about 7:30a.m when his cousin, Solomon, cut his grandmother’s head with a sharp cutlass.

Another relation, Joy Frank, said Solomon had severally threatened to kill her grandmother for not allowing him to collect rent from the tenants occupying three flats in the four flats built by his late mother.

She alleged further that he had last Wednesday threatened to kill her grandmother, a threat that prompted the woman to invite her other children to the house.

“I heard my grandmother screamed once, when I rushed to the sitting room I saw Solomon cutting my grandmother with cutlass.
