Man sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for killing final year student

Justice Minta Abimbola of the Oyo State High Court, last Thursday, sentenced  Akinwunmi Adisa to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour for the murder and roasting of  Anwal Bala Shanono, a 500-level student of Ahmadu Bello University.

The Court, however, discharged three others charged alongside the convict for want of evidence. 
Adisa, three others  at large, were alleged to have committed the crime at the Total Filling Station, Oyo Road on June 4, 2011, during a fracas between two rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

According to court records, the accused persons killed and roasted the body of Shanono, who was caught in the crossfire of the mayhem that took place at about 9:30 pm on that fateful day.

Justice Minta Abimbola, who is also the Chief Judge of Oyo State, noted that while Adisa was actually involved in the nefarious act and instigated others to snuff the life out of the victim, the three others, Olumide Oladejo, Sadie Adedokun and Tajudeen Arowotosuna, had indisputable alibis and hence, regained their freedom.

I do not have substantial reason to convict the second, third, and fourth accused persons. They are discharged and acquitted. 
 Akinwunmi Adisa is hereby sentenced to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour.”
