A 52-year-old man, Mr. Gabriel Olaniyan, yesterday told an Ibadan Magistrate Court at Iyaganku, Oyo State, how he lured a nine-year-old girl with a N10 worth of biscuit to rape her.

The accused, who said he had no job, was arraigned on a one count charge of defiling the minor before Chief Magistrate, Mrs. N.A.J. Ogunbona.

Though his plea was not taken by the court, the randy man told the court how he cunningly brainwashed the little girl before he committed the act. He, however, said he made a mistake by committing the despicable act.

In a charge‎ sheet marked MI/37c/2018 and signed by SP Fawole Funke, the accused was alleged to have committed the act on March 1, 2018 at about 5:00p.m. at Alapafon area of Ibadan. He dismissed the insinuation that he actually defiled the girl for ritual purpose.

The victim’s father, Mr. Adeleke, narrated to the court how his daughter was returning home from a Quranic school when the accused waylaid her and eventually raped her.

Adeleke said the victim was under the tutelage of his new wife after parting ways with her mother. The judge was so shocked that she rained curses on those who are fond of raping minors.

The Chief Magistrate advised parents to always monitor their children and take good care of them so as to prevent their wards from being molested by people with unwholesome behaviour.

After ordering that the accused be remanded in Agodi Prison pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, she adjourned the case to April 5.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old labourer, Peter Ochi, who allegedly assaulted three schoolgirls sexually, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, who resides at 9, Bishop Hugh St., College area of Ogba, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and sexual assault.

Police Prosecutor, Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on February 27, 2018 at Jerare Summit Secondary School, Ogba.

Ogu said the accused, a non-teaching staff member in the school, invited the girls of ages 12, 14 and 15 to a corner and started touching their private parts. “One of the girls told their school counselor what happened and the accused was arrested for further questioning.”

The offences violated Sections 134 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The accused, on conviction, may be jailed at least two years. The accused, however, denied the charge.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. Akanni said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case until April 23.
