Man, 36, docked for stealing N860,000

courtA 36-year-old man, Sanusi Saheed, was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for stealing N860,000 belonging to his employer Mr Alex Ogbebor.

Saheed, who resides at No. 9 Rafiu Odebiyi St., Oko-Filling Bus-Stop, Igando, a suburb of Lagos, was docked on a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Frank Inah, said that the accused stole the amount being the proceeds of the Estate Hall belonging Ogbebor.

He said that the accused committed the offence on June 15 at about 10a.m. at Estate Festival Hall, 11 Road, Gowon Estate, Lagos.

Inah said that the complainant employed Saheed as a supervisor of the hall.

He said that on July 20, Ogbebor discovered that the accused had converted the N860, 000 into his personal account without his knowledge.

Saheed absconded and all efforts to trace him proved abortive until Dec. 1 when he was found and arrested by the police,” Inah said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Osinbajo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 21 for mention. (NAN)
