Man, 24, appears in court for raping 10-year old girl

A 24-year-old man, Moses Oga, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrate Court for defiling a 10-year-old girl.

The accused, who resides at No. 7 Fatoki Street, Onipanu, Ota, Ogun, was arraigned on a one-count charge of defilement.

Prosecutor Chudu Gbesi told the court that the offence was committed at accused residence.

Gbesi said that the accused had an unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl by sleeping with her.

He said that the offence contravened Section 218 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1 of Revised Law of Ogun, 2006.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Banwo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, swear to an affidavit of means, and show evidence of tax clearance payment in the last three years.

He said one of the sureties must be blood relation of the accused, while the other should be civil servant not below GL 10 in Ogun.

The court said that the sureties should also submit recent passport photographs to the court and their addresses should be verified by the police.

He adjourned the case till Oct. 16, for hearing.
