As part of measures to honour the foremost translator of the Bible to Yoruba language and the first African Anglican Bishop in Nigeria, Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther, Christian leaders across the country have being charged to organize an annual assembly of Christians at his Osoogun hometown in Iseyin local government area of Oyo State.

The founder of Jesus is Saviour Amen Ministry, Bishop Daniel Mudashiru Balogun, called on Christian leaders, particularly those who make use of the Yoruba Bible to gather at least once a year at Crowther’s hometown to unite and pray for the progress of the country and Christendom at large.

Balogun said promoting the legacy of the illustrious clergyman in the community is a fitting tribute to the memory of Crowther.

Osoogun, which is significant for housing a lot of missionaries, chapels and churches, has being in a deplorable state for decades, “more reason why we should promote this community and attract government’s attention to the area,” Balogun added.

Meanwhile, a community leader in Osoogun, Chief Moses Oyebanji Alabi II, has pledged to provide at least five acres of land for the annual gathering. Alabi believes a gathering like this is long overdue and sees it as a way of developing the community. According to him, Osoogun is ready to host all Christians and serve as home for all.

Also, chairman of Osoogun Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Evang. Segun Ayoola, has welcomed the development and pledged their support towards making it a reality. Ayoola also proposed that a council of Christian leaders across the country, particularly the Yoruba speaking churches should be inaugurated to work assiduously towards actualizing the project.
