To cushion the suffering of the family of Somtochukwu Ibeanusi, the young boy reportedly killed during the demolition of Ekeukwu Owere Market in Owerri, a 10-man committee, chaired by Ambrose Ejiogu, and set up by the Chief Executive Officer, Zinox Technologies, Leo Stan Ekeh, to distribute N50m humanitarian fund to victims has been inaugurated at the weekend in Owerri. The body has also started the distribution of cheques. The disbursement is to last 30 days.

Also worried by the manner of the demolition exercise despite the pendency of a subsisting order restraining such in court, the Owerri branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, chaired by Lawrence Nwakaeti, has restated its call for the commencement of impeachment of Governor Rochas Okorocha.

The body also offered free legal services to victims, vowing to drag the governor, as well as all those involved in the demolition to court at its expense. Speaking at the event, Ejiogu said systematic process would be followed in identifying those affected.

The late Somtochukwu was shot during the demolition exercise, while several others sustained bullet injuries and are in critical condition.Nwakaeti wondered why such relocation should prompt the deployment of military men.
