To stem corruption in the polity, the Federal Government should leave capital projects for the private sector, Senator Tolulope Odebiyi representing Ogun West has said.

Speaking against the backdrop of the bureaucracy in the public sector through which civil servants cut corners for selfish gains, he asked the government to focus on education and payment of living wage.

“Government should start thinking of how to get out of capital projects. Let the private sector take over.

“Why is the government doing the rail, why not privatise the rail? If we don’t have the fund, why not leave the private sector do it? In America, the Rockefellers started the rail thing. A Dangote can do the rail,” he said.

According to him, if China is interested in lending Nigeria money for infrastructure and capital projects, it should come and do the rail for us and run it for a period.

“By so doing, we lesson our involvement in doing capital projects and let the private sector come and handle it,” he added.

On the endemic corruption that weighs the country down, he said, “We have to, first of all, agree that it is either we kill corruption or corruption kills us. We have to agree that corruption is not even cancer anymore; it has become part of our DNA.”
