Member representing Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State in the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has condemned the appalling state of Umuahia-Bende-Arochukwu Federal Road, which passes through his constituency and other federal roads that are at various stages of dilapidation in the state.

The lawmaker made the remarks during a screening exercise for beneficiaries of the Benjamin Kalu Foundation tertiary education scholarships, which 400 families in the constituency have already benefitted attributed infrastructure decay in the country to shoddy maintenance, and urged governments to reverse the trend by placing premium on proper preservation.

“Our infrastructure would continue to dilapidate unless they are maintained sustainably,” he said.

The lawmaker, who also expressed worries over the negative impact of the country’s harsh economic condition on students, said it was encouraging the youths to abandon education for other ventures.

Kalu therefore, called on both the federal and state governments to revive the economy and reverse the trend, stressing that if students should shun education, they would not be properly equipped to lead the country in future.
