Lawmaker alleges disappearance of N54bn from Adamawa coffers

A member of Adamawa State House of Assembly representing Mubi south constituency, Governor Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow’s hometown, Alhaji Abdullaman Abubakar Isa, has said over N54bn budgeted for pensioners and Adamawa State University has disappeared from the state treasury.

Isa, who is the House Committee chairman on appropriation told journalists, yesterday, at Yola International airport on his way to Abuja to submit petition against the Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Mahmoud Sale Inusa, that all deductions from the 21 local governments for Adamawa State University have not been remitted to the university in the past three years.

On Friday, the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adamawa State University chapter, Dr. Abubakar A. Song, denied that his institution collected such money since inception of the present administration.

He said the five percent has been reduced to three percent, but that nothing is coming to the university as stipulated by the state law.

Isa said: “My committee wrote the Commissioner of Finance more than 10 times within this period to produce documents on how much government received from Federation account and how it is being disbursed, but he refused to honour our request.

He came to my house on several occasions begging that my committee drop the matter, and I told him it is not possible. That is why I decided to take my petition to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to help me recover the state funds.”

Isa, who regretted being a member of the current Adamawa Assembly, accused his colleagues of taking side with the governor to defraud people of the state by sharing their legitimate source of livelihood.
