In furtherance of the Executive Order against indiscriminate waste dumping signed by Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has begin an intensive waste evacuation operation tagged ‘Lagos at 4a.m.’, to tackle the menace of improper waste disposal in the metropolis.

Public Relations Officer of LAWMA, Obinna Onyenali, said the authority has commenced the early morning operation to fast track the process of restoring environmental sustainability in Lagos. “We have embarked on this operation to restore the state to the path of cleanliness and environmental sustainability.”

This early morning operation starts by 4am; we roll out our operational vehicles at strategic locations across the metropolis to sanitize the environment and mitigate waste challenges”, Onyenali stated.

The LAWMA PRO said that the Authority will not leave any stone unturned in its quest to clean up black spots across the State and urged Lagosians to support efforts of the State Government by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste and patronizing their assigned PSP operators.

Meanwhile, LAWMA has also reiterated its commitment to tackling the challenge of environmental degradation in Apapa area of Lagos occasioned by the inaccessibility of the road for waste evacuation.

Onyenali said the task of restoring the environment in Apapa was one the Authority had to do to make the environment livable for residents and those who carry out their business transactions there.

“As you are well aware, we recently raised alarm over the deplorable state of the environment in Apapa which was majorly caused by utility vehicles blocking the roads, thus making it difficult for LAWMA trucks to operate in the area.

“However, we will intensify our efforts to clear backlogs of wastes dumped within the Apapa environment as traffic situation in the area improves”, he said.

It would be recalled that LAWMA recently called on the authorities in Apapa to speedy up the process of decongesting the Apapa road to make it accessible for effective waste evacuation.
