Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, in collaboration with Queen Mary University, London has launched an awareness campaign against asthma to provide access for teachers and pupils to information about symptoms and control.

Speaking at the launch of Achieving Asthma Control in African Children (ACACIA), Consultant Respiratory Physician, LASUCOM, Dr. Olayinka Adeyeye said: “Presently, parents and teachers know little about asthma and the severity in young people in Africa. In this project, six countries in Africa would be participating in it including Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Malawi and Zimbabwe. The targets are 3000 children aged 12 and 16 years who have symptoms. This would enable the group to describe the burden of asthma in children and the reason for poor asthma control.”
