Landlady’s son allegedly rapes five-year-old in Ajegunle

Police in Ajeromi have arrested a 20-year-old man, Chibueze Umenyi in Ajegunle, Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Council of Lagos State for alleginly raping a five-year-old minor (name withheld) on Sunday, June 5.

In tear-filled eyes, father of the victim, Mr. Christopher Igbigis, told The Guardian that his daughter had gone to play with his landlady on Sunday evening when the suspect, who is the landlady’s son, carried out the act.

“She was with my landlady last night when she asked for permission to ease herself. She went to the back of the compound where unfortunately Chibueze was. He called her and carried her to his room, where he started playing porn movies for her.

“He then laid her on his bed, pulled off her clothes, used his hands to cover her mouth and forcefully raped my innocent daughter. At that point, my elder daughter was looking for her younger one. As she was shouting, he stopped and pushed her outside his room and immediately took to his heels.

“She raised the alarm, which made neighbours to chase after him. When he was caught, he confessed to the act before he was taken to Ajeromi Police Station, where the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) Mrs. Yemi detained him,” he narrated.

The girl is presently at the Orege General Hospital, where doctors confirmed some complications in her private part, though they were yet to carry out other tests as at press time.

Mother of the rapist, Mrs. Gladys Umenyi, said she was short of words and disappointed in her son. According to her, there is a close bond between both families, but she never knew her son would take advantage of that to commit the heinous crime.

“I carried the young girl to my church because she is like a daughter to me. When I returned from church, I left for another place only for me to receive a call that my son raped her. As a mother, it will be hard to abandon him despite this act. Please, my son should be shown mercy, he will never do such again,” she pleaded.
