Lalong visits invaded Plateau community, promises rehabilitation

Governor Simon Bako Lalong has led a high-powered delegation to Dogon Nahawa community in Jos South Local Council of Plateau State to sympathise with victims of the 2009 massacre where more than 500 women and children were slain by invaders.

During the Christmas visit to the community, the governor, accompanied by the secretary to the state government (SSG), Chief Rufus Bature, caretaker chairman of the council, Augustine Pwakim and other top government officials, pledged to rebuild the town and rehabilitate the residents as soon as possible. He said this resolve informed the presence of the top state officials, whom he stressed, were to execute government’s intention for the village.

The principal of the only school in the community which was not spared too by the assailants, Esther Samson, appealed to the governor to assist the institution with facilities such as computers and a laboratory, adding that the school was still to undertake the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations ever since.

A student, Bulus Daniel, said the school was transforming them, regretting that the unfortunate incident rendered a lot of his peers orphans and several parents widows and widowers.
