Lagos to rehabilitate 43 dilapidated inner city roads

• Lists Shasha, Akowonjo, Alfred Rewane, Kirikiri, Ahmadu Bello, Lateef Jakande roads 

For economic activities not to be hindered by bad and pothole-ridden roads, the Lagos State government yesterday disclosed that about 43 dilapidated roads would go through major rehabilitation in the next few days.

The Special Adviser to Lagos State governor and Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Temidayo Erinle, who revealed this in a press briefing yesterday, said the roads falls within the five zones the state has been divided into. Alfred Rewane, Kirikiri, Shasha, Ahmadu Bello, Lekki-Ajah and Lateef Jakande roads are some of the roads listed for major rehabilitation.

He stated that the major rehabilitation became necessary because much cannot be done during the rainy season. He maintained that his corporation like the governor is committed to constantly maintain all road networks in Lagos such that they remain motorable all year round using up-to-date technology, reason it is launching ‘Operation fill all potholes’.

“However, we are currently carrying out palliative works on our major roads through the application of boulders, crushed stones and other construction materials to address the potholes problems in order not to paralyse economic activities in the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, motorists plying the January 27 link bridge at Oke-Afa, Ejigbo are lamenting the deplorable condition of the link road, Benson Anonue street and other roads in Ajao Estate taking traffic from the bridge popularly known as Canoe.
