Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), has reiterated that the time-line for the issuance of legal advice by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office, Ministry of Justice, does not exceed two weeks from the receipt of a duplicate case file from the police. He stated this in his office at the secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, yesterday while reacting to complaints from members of the public.

“It is necessary to inform the public that the DPP has policies in place for ensuring speedy issuance of well-considered legal advice. However, in exceptional cases where the case is complex, a legal advice may be issued in three weeks,” he said.

Onigbanjo also said that in a situation whereby the police forward the duplicate case file but counsel makes a request for further information or investigation, the timeline for delivery of the legal advice starts to run when the additional information is received.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the timeline is strictly adhered to by the DPP’s office,” he added. The commissioner, who enjoined any member of the public with a case on non-adherence to the timeline to forward such to him, said such matter would be taken up and resolved accordingly.” He further noted that in the event that any member of the public has a case on non-adherence to the timeline, complaints should be forwarded to him.He said such matter would be taken up and resolved accordingly.”
