Lagos State Government will honour individuals, groups and organisations that have contributed to environmental sustenance in the state.

The second edition f the environmental award tagged ‘Lagos Green Award’ will form part of activities to commemorate the 2019 World Environment Day (WED) by the state government.

Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, in a statement yesterday, explained that the nine-category award stemmed from the deliberate policy of government to stimulate the appreciation of the environment among individuals and groups.

Environmental Management, Best Environment Practices, Oil Spill Management, Health, Safety and Environment, Waste Prevention and Recycling, Solid Waste Treatment and Disposal, Emissions Control Technologies, Natural Resources Conservation, Innovation and Sustainable Solutions are the categories, according to him.

“Our environment will be safer if we all embrace the opportunity to get involved in protecting the environment, which is the superstructure on which our civilisation rests,” he stressed.

WED is a United Nations-designated day marked on June 5 across the world to articulate global environmental concerns.
