Lagos State discharges five coronavirus patients

Lagos State Government on Monday discharged five coronavirus patients who have fully recovered from the virus.

This newly discharged patient at the Infectious Disease Centre, Yaba Mainland Hospital brings the total number of people that recovered from the global pandemic to eight.

Lagos State Government in a statement said the survivors are four males and one female that were quarantined and treated at the isolation centre for two weeks after testing positive for the coronavirus.

The survivors, who preferred to remain anonymous, the government said, are stable and unruffled.

One of the discharged patients assured Nigerians that testing positive for COVID-19 is not a death sentence and advised people not to panic as the virus could be defeated.

“We can beat it, I want to assure others that this is not their resting place. Encourage yourselves, take your medications and in no distant time, you will get out of here,” he said.

Lagos State governor reassured Lagosians that the government is doing all within its capacity to curtail the spread of the virus.

“We are very excited to hear that five of our citizens in the isolation centre have regained full recovery,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“It is another pointer to us that with a concerted effort, we can defeat the coronavirus in Lagos and Nigeria.”

Currently, Nigeria has 111 confirmed cases of coronavirus with Lagos State being the worst-hit with 69, according to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Abuja has 21 cases. Oyo has seven cases. Ogun State has three cases. Enugu, Edo, Bauchi and Osun State has two cases each. Ekiti, Rivers, Benue and Kaduna State have one case each.
