The Lagos State Government has renewed its commitment to improving its response time towards effective management of emergency across the state with the establishment of an additional LASEMA Response Unit at Igando in Alimosho Council.

General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu, who disclosed this said the centre would cater for residents around Ikotun, Idimu, Egbeda, LASU-Igando road and Badagry, while process for the establishment of another unit by the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education Ijanikin was ongoing.

Tiamiyu explained that the decentralisation of disaster management from one response unit in Alausa to three at Cappa Oshodi, Lekki, by Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and Onipanu on Ikorodu Road was aimed at improving response time to emergency interventions and has yielded good results.

He also stated that the state government was planning to establish additional centres in Epe to cover Itoikin and Epe-Ijebu Ode axis; Ijanikin to cover Badagry axis; LASPOTECH in Ikorodu to cover Ikorodu/Agbowa and at Costain, Funso Williams Avenue to cover Apapa, noting that over the years, there has been improved response time and proper coordination in the various emergency interventions by the agency and its stakeholders, especially with high level of professionalism, various stakeholders meeting and simulations carried out.

Assuring residents that the government was alive to its responsibilities, Tiamiyu, however, advised residents to always remember to first call the emergency toll free number- 112/767 and not resort to self help.
