Lagos government vows to prosecute cartel behind fake building plan approvals

• Seals 42 buildings over illegal construction
• Cleric lauds Tinubu on a project for the poor

The Lagos State Government has vowed to unravel the cartel behind fake building plan approvals in the state and ensure their prosecution in line with the extant laws.

The state’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, stated this during an enforcement operation in Pinnock Estate in the Osapa London axis of Lekki.

Salako, in a statement yesterday signed by Mukaila Sanusi, Assistant Director, Public Affairs in the ministry, also ordered the sealing of 42 buildings in the estate for unapproved and illegal construction.

He said it was unacceptable that most buildings in the estate were being constructed without approval while fake planning permits were also discovered in the estate.

The commissioner, who decried such behaviour, urged owners of the sealed property to come forth with the planning permit authorising their building construction.

He stated that it was expected of property owners in the estate and other areas in the state to always be law-abiding and display a good sense of patriotism by respecting the building codes of Lagos State.

According to him, it is by so doing that we all can join the vanguard for protection of life and property.

He emphasised that the government would not hesitate to bring any erring developer and property-owner to book.

In another development, Founder and General Overseer of Gospel Herald International Churches, Pastor (Dr.) Caleb Ayanwusi, has lauded the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his love and commitment to education, health and welfare of indigent children through the establishment of numerous special primary and secondary schools in the state.

Ayanwusi, who is also the Medical Director of Best Samaria Hospital, Egbe, Lagos, gave the commendation at a brief programme to unveil the Caleb Ayanwusi Foundation (CAF) for the indigent, the less-privileged and vulnerable members of the society yesterday at his Isheri, Lagos residence.

He said that he was highly challenged and motivated by the efforts of Tinubu who sited three of these schools in the Alimosho area of the state and took full responsibility for their running, including paying for all the expenses of the students from feeding to tuitions, health, sporting, school buses and other miscellaneous expences.

The General Overseer, who gave cash to each family member of his church and rice to members of the community, urged other wealthy members of the society to emulate Tinubu and give priority to the education, health and well-being of the less-privileged in the country.

He condemned the high level of corruption in the country, which he said, was defying all measures by government.
