Lagos State Government has called on political leaders to ensure they not only protect state owned property and infrastructure within their domains, they should also ensure residents also help protect these properties.

The Special Adviser, Office of Civic Engagement to Lagos State Governor, Mr Kehinde Joseph, addressing participants at a sensitization programme for the political class, said that every citizen including the political class in the state owes it a duty not only to monitor ongoing protects in their locality, but also protect such projects after completion from abuse.

He said: “As stakeholders in this administration, you owe it a duty not only to monitor ongoing projects in your locality but to ensure that such projects are executed without any disturbance from any quarters. In addition, you should protect such projects.

“You owe it a duty to bring to the notice of the government the abuse of such projects. Pedestrian bridges must not turn to markets in your area, illegal refuse dumpsite must be reported to the appropriate authority and the protection of the newly introduced waste-bins must be taken seriously. It is by so doing that we can assist the governor to sustain the tempo of development in the state.”
