It has been one day of agony after the other for residents of Maidan Orile and Agiliti communities in the Mile 12 area of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State as the rains and ensuing flood have hit them hard.

They are groaning under the heavy flood that has taken over their community due to the incessant downpour in the state which has caused Ogun River to overflow its banks leading to the disruption of their lives and loss of property worth millions of naira.

Many residents have been rendered homeless and some others have abandoned the area for fear of their lives.

The only bridge linking Mile 12 and Maidan Orile, which was constructed and maintained by the community of six Community Development Associations (CDAs) is now under threat, waiting to collapse anytime from the impact of the flood and the damage to the bridge.

The people have therefore, appealed to the state and local governments to come to their rescue by constructing a bridge to link the community with Oniyanrin/Maidan road in Mile 12 area, as well as a drainage to properly channel floodwater in the area.

A community leader and chairman of Victory Estate, one of the six CDAs, Mr. Abdul-Azeez, said the community has lost all hope as they have been appealing to the local and state government since 1999 without any succour.
