Lagos State Government, yesterday, said that lack of transparency in the procurement process for Fourth Mainland Bridge was why the project failed to attract investors before now.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs. Aramide Adeyoye, who disclosed this during the yearly ministerial press briefing to mark the second year anniversary of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said preferred and reserved bidders for the 38-kilometre bridge would be announced in December 2021 among the six investors that had been shortlisted.

She said that all preliminary stages were being concluded to lead to short-listing of six firms from the over 32 that expressed interest in the project.

Adeyoye explained that the need to unlock traffic gridlock in major economic, commercial, and residential areas, as well as improve travel time, necessitated the construction of these roads.

According to her, the state government, through the ministry of works and infrastructure, has continued to deliberately invest in infrastructure as the development driver of the state economy and the Greater Lagos vision.

The commissioner said that the state had delivered 51 iconic projects within two years of the present administration, which was aimed at making commuting stress-free, life more meaningful for the people, and ensure connectivity within the various communities in the state.

“Aside from the continual intervention on repairs and maintenance of over 632 inner roads covering 192 kilometres across the state, the Public Works Corporation, the ministry of works and infrastructure have also completed the construction of iconic 51 road projects and have over 43 ongoing road projects across the three senatorial districts. This is in addition to over 24 public building infrastructure that we are providing for the good people of Lagos State,” she said.

According to her, these projects are in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, most especially the first pillar T, which stands for traffic management and transportation.

Adeyoye gave the list of some of the roads as Pen-Cinema flyover, among others.

She also said that several projects were already flagged off and under construction/upgrading to further ensure linkage of different parts of the state.

The Special Adviser, who listed some recently-awarded projects to include Hospital Road in Badagry, construction of Muwo Jetty in Ojo, Abaranje Road Network in Alimosho, among others, expressed the commitment of the administration of Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat to ensure speedy completion and delivery of all the ongoing projects to time in the interest of the people.
