Labourer to receive 7 strokes of the cane for stealing 2 bags of cement
A Gudu Upper Area Court in the FCT on Thursday sentenced one Naziti Ibrahim of no fixed address to seven strokes of the cane for stealing two bags of cement.
The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, sentenced Ibrahim after he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
He then urged the convict to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crime.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Israel Nongo, had told the court that one Hitman Eboh of Good Homes Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at Apo Police Station on May 19.
Nongo said Ibrahim went to the complainant’s site where construction work was ongoing and stole two bags of cement valued at N4000.
He added that the accused was later apprehended after police investigation.
He said Ibrahim’s action contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The accused had pleaded guilty.

Is there sharia law in FCT??
Better than sentencing him to jail for a minor offence. If you sentence him to jail what happens to his children? Will you take care of them? Besides , the open caning and shame is enough to deter future petty thieves and kloptomaniacs
well, it is good than a death or life jail sentence
We will review and take appropriate action.
