Kwara State Government has earmarked N135.5 million under the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) as interest-free loan to 1,119 private school owners across the state.

This is to cushion the effect of the school closure during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-induced lockdown, according to the anchor of KWASSIP, Mohammed Brimah.

“KWASSIP engaged the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kwara State after they reached out for assistance to cushion the effect of school closure arising from COVID-19,” Brimah told reporters in Ilorin.

He added that the 1,119 private schools had been grouped into two with each category receiving between N200,000 and N100,000 –depending on staff strength.

Under the arrangement, 236 Category A schools with 20 staff and above will receive N200,000 each to support their workers. Category B schools with 19 staff or less will receive N100,000 each.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, had, during a virtual meeting with the umbrella body of private schools in the state recently, pledged to offer interest-free loan to the owners as salary support for their workers to prevent massive loss of jobs in the education sub-sector.

THE state government has begun the second phase of the 2019 promotion exercise for 1,736 civil servants across its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Chairperson of Kwara State Civil Service Commission, Habibah Yusuf, disclosed in a statement yesterday that the second phase of the exercise, which is interview of 1,736 candidates, began on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at CSC Conference Hall by 10a.m.

The exercise will end on November 4, 2020. The statement urged all candidates to be punctual, as no make-up interview would be conducted for any candidate who missed their interview date.

It directed all affected officials, who had written examinations in the first phase of the exercise, to come to the venue with their face masks in line with COVID-19 protocols.
