Kwara Assembly approves dissolution of commissions, probes sale of property

Kwara State House of Assembly has approved the dissolution of three statutory commissions inaugurated in May this year by the immediate past administration.

Specifically, the affected commissions are Kwara State House of Assembly Service Commission, Kwara State Civil Service Commission and Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC).

This followed three messages from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq to the Speaker, Yakubu Danladi Salihu and read on the floor of the House.

He requested the House approval for the dissolution through resolutions in accordance with section 6 (2) of the State House of Assembly Service Commission Law and section 201 (1) of the 1999 Constitution to remove chairmen and board members of the affected commissions over alleged misconduct.

The governor disclosed that the affected officials had, through their misconduct, demonstrated that they were incapable of discharging the functions of their offices, saying the state government complied with due process of affording the officials’ fair hearing.

Chairman and members of the House of Assembly Commission are Babatunde A. Mohammed, Nimota Aduke Ibrahim, Atolagbe Suleiman Alege, and Alex Bankole Kehinde.

The State Civil Service Commission had Sakariyah A. Onimago as Chairman, while Samuel O. Bamisaiye, Sharu Koro Mohammed and Abdul Salam Apobiyi were members.

The State Independent Electoral Commission had Taiwo Banu Eleja as Chairman, while Jimoh Gabriel Yemi, Nasiru Ayo Lawal, Issa Abdul Kayode, Dele Kayode (JP), Saidu Issa Abdullahi and Mohammed S. A. Adesina were members.

Meanwhile, the House also directed its committees on Land, Housing, Urban Development and Tertiary Education to investigate alleged illegal acquisition, appropriation, and conversion of government property to personal use.

The property, with survey no: KWG 927 and LAN/G. 1071 on Illoffa Road by Civil Service Clinic G.R.A Ilorin was acquired by private individuals and the deed allegedly signed by Akewusola M. Oba.

The House is also investigating the sales of Kwara State Government’s two aircraft at N5m through the Rector of Aviation College, who will report to the House within two weeks.

These followed two petitions by House Leader, Abubakar Olawoyin Mogaji and Chief Whip, Yusuf Musa Atoyebi, which were presented on the floor of the House.

The petition on sale of the aircraft was written by the Kwara Restoration Agenda (KRA) and signed by Ibraheem Lambe Giwa (Kwara Central), Michael Duro Adeleke (Kwara South) and Umar Yahaya Ndana (Kwara North).
