Killers of 7 had no Tiv mandate, says Tor Tiv
The paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Professor James Ayatse, has described as barbaric and uncalled for the killing of seven travellers in Gboko town by a suspected mob, saying the action did not have the people’s mandate.
The Tor Tiv, who was attending the meeting of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria in Port Harcourt, River State, when the incident occurred, condemned the development. He said the perpetrators were enemies of the Tiv people and their action could worsen the prosecution of the ethnic group.
In a statement, yesterday, he also faulted the miscreants for taking the laws into their hands, rather than allowing security agencies to act on any perceived infraction in the area.
He warned youths in his domain to refrain from posting or acting on fictitious alarms on social media platforms, thereby worsening the fragile security situation in the state.
