Kidnappers release victim after payment of N5m ransom, twins yet to regain freedom

The general secretary of Christ’s School alumni association, Ado Ekiti, Mr. Rufus Oladele, who was kidnapped on Friday along Aramoko-Efon Road in Ekiti State, regained freedom on Tuesday night after allegedly parting with N5 million.

But the twins, Taiwo and Kehinde Olowoafara seni, who was abducted on the same route on Saturday are still in the den of kidnappers.

The kidnappers, had when they contacted families of their victims, requested N6 million each as ransom before they could release the twins, while they put N10 million ransom on Oladele.

A source that did not want his name in print said N5 million ransom was paid to the kidnappers before the release of the Oladele.

According to the source, the amount was contributed by some members of the alumni, relations and well-meaning members of his community to secure his safe release.

Traditional ruler of the community, Oba Adegoroye Omoseebi, who expressed joy that his subject regained freedom, said well-meaning members of the community sprang into action through networking immediately information got to them that Oladele was kidnapped.

The monarch said: “I as well as Erinjiyan is happy that he is released. But the security agencies and the state government have to do something to curb this incessant kidnappings in the state urgently”.

Spokesman for the police in Ekiti State, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, who confirmed release, said: “Through the intensive effort of the command operatives, Oladele Rufus has been released by the kidnappers.

He implored members of the public to co-operate with the police to be security conscious, vigilant and report any untoward incidence and go about their lawful businesses.
