Keffi residents appeal to govt. to reconstruct collapsed bridge
The residents made the appeal in separate interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
NAN reports that the bridge, which connected Keffi city roundabout with the area motor park had collapsed shortly before the 2015 governorship election in the state.
Mr James Bako, a transporter in the area, told NAN that the collapsed bridge had constituted untold hardship to motorists and residents in the area.
Bako said that government needed to reconstruct the bridge to reduce the hardship being faced by the residents.
He said that the construction would boost the socio-economic development of the area and the state at large.
Mrs Blessing Emeka, a business woman, also urged the government to give priority to the reconstruction of the bridge to ease movement of goods and services.
“The collapse of the bridge has not only affected our socio-economic activities but has also affected our lives.
“I want to appeal to the authority concerned to reconstruct the bridge so that it will improve on the standard of living of the people of the area,’’ she said.
Similarly, Mr Ibrahim Adams, a motorist in the area, said that the collapse of the bridge had affected his business activities negatively.
He called on the state government to come to their aid and reconstruct the bridge for the benefit of the people in the area.
Adams said that government had been paying lip service to the reconstruction of the bridge and implored the state government to make it as a priority.
Mr Joseph Maiwada, Deputy Chairman, Keffi Local Government Area, told NAN that the road was a Federal Government’s road.
Maiwada added that the state government had awarded the contract for the repair of the bridge to give succour to people in the area.
