Kebbi, Kogi kick off FG’s 774,000 jobs

The Special Public Works Programme is part of conscious strategies by the Federal Government to address the rising unemployment and insecurity in some parts of the country.

While kicking off the programme in Birnin-Kebbi at the weekend, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, maintained that the employment opportunity to 774,00 Nigerians as part of strategies to fast-track the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017 to 2020.

The Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Office of the AGF, made this known to The Guardian.

Malami said the objective was to facilitate the creation of productive and inclusive societies in the country and shield the most vulnerable from passive hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and joblessness.

SIMILARLY, Governor Yahaya Bello has kicked off the programme in Kogi State.

Bello, while speaking at the ceremony at the weekend, praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his decision to employ 774,000 Nigerians across the federation.

He said the programme would make ordinary Nigerians feel government’s impact in every little way.

While charging the 21,000 beneficiaries in the state to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire skills for self-reliance, Bello noted that his administration was passionate about such programme, restating his commitment to support the President in any way to make life meaningful for the citizens.

Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ramatu Tijani, lauded the initiative by the Buhari administration, describing it as a step to address biting unemployment and poverty in the country.

She praised Bello for his efforts to address socio-economic challenges in the state and called on the citizens to take up skills that would make them self-employed.

In his opening remarks, the Acting Director-General, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Abubakar Fikpo, described the programme as a very significant step in Nigeria’s quest to win the war against mass unemployment.
