Kebbi CJ releases 109 prison inmates
The Chief Judge of Kebbi, Justice Bala Mairiga, has released a total of 109 inmates including those awaiting trial in various prisons across the state.
This is contained in a press statement issued by the Chief Judge’s media officer, Mr Jafaru Arzika on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.
According to Mairiga, 70 of those released were in prison for minor offences, while 39 were those unable to meet their bail conditions.
He said that the gesture was to decongest the prisons and ensure justice and fairness.
The chief judge ordered the state Director of Public Prosecution to hasten the trials of inmates, most of whom are awaiting trial.
Mairiga advised those released to be of good behaviour, saying their deviant behaviours would only land them in more trouble.
He commended the state Command of Nigeria Prison Service for the good sanitary condition of prisons, noting that the effort would prevent outbreak of diseases and enhance the wellbeing of inmates.
