Kano, Osun declare Thursday public holiday to mark Islamic new year

The Kano State government has declared Thursday, September 21, 2017, which represents the 1st of Muharram, 1439 A.H, as a public holiday to mark the New Islamic Year.

The Kano State government has declared Thursday, September 21, 2017, which represents the 1st of Muharram, 1439 A.H, as a public holiday to mark the New Islamic Year.

A statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Muhammad Garba, urged Muslim faithful to use the period to join hands with the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government in its determination to build a peaceful and harmonious country.

The statement, which quoted the Acting Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, charged the people of the state to use the period to pray for the unity, peace and stability of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has declared today public holiday to commemorate the Islamic new year.A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Adelani Baderin, said the governor wishes Muslims in the state and across the world a happy new year celebration and enjoined residents of the state to live in peace and harmony with one another.
